Abstract:

In this study we reviewed the literature relating to educator leave and absence; we analysed the PERSAL and Khulisa 4% audit datasets to determine the extent of leave taking, we conducted in-depth studies at 50 schools around the country and interviewed district and provincial officials to understand the dynamics of the management of leave.
