dc.description.abstract An evaluation of literacy teaching in 20 grade 1-4 primary schools and five district offices in Limpopo resulted in a clear pattern of the ills plaguing the foundation phase of schooling (reception - grade R - to grade 4). This extensive study, funded by Irish AID, was conducted by the HSRC in association with the University of Limpopo for the Limpopo Department of Education. This article discusses the findings and recommendations. en
