dc.description.abstract As in previous surveys, respondents were questioned about their party political loyalties. Fieldworkers said to each respondent "I would like to ask how close or distant you feel towards various political parties and organisations. If you feel close to a party you would support it. If you feel distant you would oppose it." The responses to this question are particularly interesting in the light of shifts in political allegiance that occurred in the June 1999 election, five months before the survey was done. en
