Abstract:
In the early September 2019 the street of Johannesburg convulsed with violence. Using anti-immigrant rhetoric, citizens in the country's wealthiest city attached foreign nationals and foreign owned businesses. At least 12 people were killed and hundreds more were forced from their homes. This chapter looks at how anti-immigrant hate crime can best be combated and steps that should be taken to address this problem.
