dc.description.abstract Retired chief justice Sandile Ngcobo had an illustrious career as a lawyer, a judge and a chief justice spanning over four decades, up to (and beyond) his formal retirement in 2011. During his tenure as chief justice, Ngcobo, like his predecessors, was committed to broker[ing] compromise and to do[ing] a great deal to preserve the intellectual integrity and collegial unity of the court.
