Abstract:
The two epigraphs at the beginning of this bio-sketch - the first from a letter to a friend and the second from a 'collection of musings' - epitomise Olive Schreiner's importance as a social commentator: her keen sense of justice for all, and her passion in particular for equal treatment of women.
