The genesis of this report is based on desktop research and fieldwork that was undertaken in China on 23 May to 13 June 2015. The fieldwork was based on consultations with various institutions which provided insight as to how China implemented its reforms and whether South Africa can learn from China's experience. The fieldwork visit consisted of meetings with think tanks, and universities, government officials, and development zones. Given the strong relations between China and South Africa, this SEZ study is timely as it fits directly into South Africa's current growth strategy. |
