Youth in the global South, Southern theory and global youth studies: Howard Williamson in conversation with the editors of the Oxford handbook of global South youth studies

Abstract

It is a privilege for a white man from the Global North to be taking responsibility to interrogate all of you about why you produced this impressive volume of work. This is an opportunity for you to tell the readership of Youth and Globalisation what it's all about, and what core conceptual and other points lie within it. Right now, in Europe, we are facing the Ukraine crisis and perhaps are experiencing something more familiar to people in the Global South - precarity, displacement and conflict. It's a shock for those of us who've largely lived in peace in Europe since 1945. This is a time when we need to think about shared experiences across the globe, as well as the things that disunite us.
