Abstract:
The village of Luka is located in the mineral-rich platinum mining belt near Rustenburg in the North West province. Despite decades of mining-related economic stimulus, its inhabitants continue to struggle with unemployment, insufficient access to healthcare, housing and other services. Modimowabarwa Kanyane reports on community experiences collected as part of the HSRC’s Democracy@30 Project.
