Abstract:
As part of the research project to determine public perceptions regarding the possible construction of a new section of the N2 between Port Edward and Lusikisiki, the South African National Roads Agency commissioned the Human Sciences Research Council to conduct a representative sample survey of the attitudes of residents living in the vicinity of the proposed route. In preparation for the survey, a series of four focus group discussions were convened in the relevant area, with migrant workers who were at home during the Christmas holiday period. The purpose was to factor their concerns into the design of the sample survey instrument that will be administered when most migrant workers are likely to be back at their places of work in cities and towns
elsewhere in South Africa.
