dc.description.abstract Sub-Saharan Africa bears the brunt of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. There are an estimated 25 million people living with HIV and AIDS in the region and AIDS is the leading cause of premature mortality. Given the scale of the epidemic, all children in high prevalence countries experience the impact of HIV/AIDS - either directly or indirectly - through changes in their families, communties, schools, health services and the like, which occur as a result of illness and death of working adults. en
