Abstract:
Childhood is a bitter sweet collection that will take you back to a time of curiosity and innocence. Each excerpt, drawn from the memoirs of a diverse range of South Africans, provides a moving and memorable insight into the life of a child. Miracles and tragedies have occurred within the lives of many South Africans. After a turbulent century filled with remorse, anger, loss and eventually hope we have emerged as a nation by a common desire for change. Showcased here, is the writing of the country's finest authors and personalities, all peering back through the mists of time in an attempt to recall their own youthful responses and feelings. Here you will find industrialists, and poets and vagabonds and farmers, refugees and entertainers. This book is about family and community. It brings together a collection of texts that begin to define who we are as individuals but also who we are as a nation.
