dc.description.abstract Rule presents evidence from the 1999 elections suggesting that South Africans' voting behaviour is almost exclusively determined by race. Yet, paradoxically, when asked what informs their party choice, they strongly deny this. Does this then suggest that there exists a strong coincidence between parties' policies and priorities and racial identity? And will this pattern continue in the 2004 elections? en
