Municipal commonage administration in the Free State province: can municipalities in the current local government dispensation promote emerging farming? October

Abstract

The primary purpose for this research is to establish whether municipalities in the current local government dispensation in the Free State are able to utilise commonage land to promote emerging farmers so effectively that they become viable commercial farmers. The secondary purpose of the study is to outline how, in the event of emerging farmers on municipal commonage becoming successful commercial farmers, the concept would form part of formulating a formal policy for local economic development (LED).
