Abstract:
This paper offers an assessment of the performance of, and prospects for, the Mbeki regime and assumes a familiarity with the constitutional and structural dimensions of the Presidency in South Africa. The analysis concentrates on the period from Thabo Mbeki's elections in June 1999 to the local government election in December 2000 and the African National Congress Lekgotla or policy review in January 2001.
