Abstract:
This Report presents the preliminary key results of the 2001/2 R&D Survey that the Knowledge Management research programme of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) conducted for the Department of Science and Technology, South Africa (DST). The Survey was conducted according to the OECD Guidelines embodied in the Frascati Manual and involved a comprehensive examination of four sectors: government (including science councils), higher education, business and not-for-profit. The key indicator, GERD, or % of GDP that is expended on R&D is 0,76%. Standard comparative data on the distribution of financial inputs and on personnel inputs is also provided.
