Abstract:
This chapter offers a critical engagement with these discourses, specifically as they manifest in education, and the discussion draws on some recent South African events. We then propose the development of a Critical Diversity Literacy among pre-service teachers to enable them to trouble these prevailing discourses, and ultimately to foster more nuanced understandings of power, privilege and difference within school communities.
